BEAUMONT, Texas – Fresh off their open week, the Lamar University football team will take a break from Southland Conference action Saturday to host Prairie View A&M. The first meeting between the two schools since 2012, and just the second meeting ever, the Cardinals step on the field looking to flip the script and get in the win column.
It has been a rough start to the season for the Red and White who have dropped their first six games of the year. Adding to the disappointment, three of the team's previous four losses have been decided by eight points or less.
Saturday's contest will also kick off a season long three-game homestand that will include Nicholls and Southeastern Louisiana before LU closes out the year with two games on the road.
The Panthers, who are also entering the game coming off a bye week, are looking to get back in the win column after a disappointing performance last time out. Prairie View dropped a 45-13 decision to Southern at home which was their first conference loss of the season. The setback knocked them out of first place in the league back into a tie for second (but still tied for tops in their division). Prior to the loss, PVAMU had rattled off consecutive wins. The Panthers hit the midway point of their schedule 3-3 (.500) overall and with a 3-1 mark in league play.
The two previous meetings between the two schools have both been in Beaumont, with the Cardinals getting the upper hand. In fact, LU has only surrendered a touchdown to Prairie View in the two previous outings with the Cards outscoring PVAMU, 61-7, combined in those games.
Saturday's contest is slated to tip off at 4 p.m. from Provost Umphrey Stadium. In the break between the first and second quarter, LU will be recognizing the five inductees into the hall of honor (Bruce Aven, Reggie Begelton, Donald Davis, Herbert Harris and Jennifer Heisler). The induction ceremony for the 2022 Cardinal Hall of Honor is taking place at 10 a.m. in the Setzer Center Ballroom. For those wishing to attend, tickets can be purchased by clicking

The game will be broadcast live on Newstalk 560 KLVI and streamed live on ESPN+.
