| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University's softball team released its 2022 schedule as announced by head coach Amy Hooks Friday afternoon. With 21 home games (12 conference and nine non-conference), LU's season will begin with three non-conference tournaments.

The Cardinals will open up by going international by taking part in the Puerto Vallarta Challenge in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico from Feb. 10th-13th. There, they will face-off with four challengers beginning with a doubleheader vs. Memphis and Washington. The next two days will see LU play Rutgers before ending the tournament against Long Beach State on the 13th.

LU's home debut will be a tournament which kicks off Friday, Feb. 18th. The two-day tournament will consist of LU, Ohio and New Mexico.

One week later, the Cardinals will go down to Houston for their first and final non-conference tournament. After meeting the Cougars on the 25th, LU will take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Houston Baptist on both the 26th and 27th.

LU will have two series with Sam Houston State. But the first of the two will be a non-conference series on March 4th-5th. The next week sees the Cardinals at home for four games starting with a March 8th contest against HBU before they open conference play with Abilene Christian that weekend.

After their first conference road series against Stephen F. Austin on March 18th-19th, the Cardinals will travel to Austin and San Antonio to meet with the Longhorns of Texas and the UTSA Roadrunners on March 22nd-23rd, respectively.

The week of March 28th-Apr. 3 sees five home games for LU as they host a doubleheader with Texas Southern on the 29th while the weekend brings Tarleton State. A week later, the Cardinals will head to Waco to meet with Baylor on Apr. 6th while taking on ACU in Stephenville that weekend.

A five-game home stretch follows as the Cardinals will play Southern (Apr. 12), SFA (Apr. 15-16), and McNeese, which will swap locations in the series as the first game will be in Beaumont (Apr. 22) while the remaining two will be in Lake Charles the next day. Four more road games follow with Texas A&M and Tarleton before the Cardinals' regular season will end at home against SHSU.

The WAC Tournament will take place on May 11-14th and will be played at SHSU.

"We are excited to get the 22 season started," said head coach Amy Hooks. "We get started in Mexico which is an awesome experience for our Student Athletes. We will play a very competitive schedule that will allow us to be ready for conference play. We have mixed in some ranked opponents this season and I'm ready to see our team compete this season."
