HOUSTON, Texas -- The Lamar University softball program dropped a doubleheader to Houston Baptist on Saturday afternoon in Houston. The series finale is set for a 2 p.m. first pitch time at the Husky Field.

GAME 1 – Houston Baptist 9, Lamar 2

The Huskies brought at the big bats to open the contest as they took an early 4-0 lead after just one inning. HBU tallied the first two runs of the contest on a two-run home run to center field. After getting two more runners on, Bullen singled through the left side to give the Huskies their next two runs.

The Cardinals got on the board in the third after a single by
Nicolette Ramirez got through to left field, and after grounding the ball the outfielder made an error that allowed
Aleka Xayaseng score. Lamar's
Felixia Hinojosa put the Cards to within two runs after she drilled a solo home run to left field. The Huskies answered in the fifth as they extended their lead to 7-2.

Houston Baptist got LU to go down in order in the top of the sixth before they extended their lead by two. The Cardinals got runners in scoring position in the seventh inning, but it was not enough as Houston Baptist went onto capture a 9-2 victory in game one. Â

GAME 2 – Houston Baptist 2, Lamar 1

 The Cardinals got the bats going early as they went up 1-0 after one inning courteous of a
Kaylee Ancelot single that caused the Huskie defense to make an error that allowed
Felixia Hinojosa to get home. Over the next couple innings, Lamar went onto hold the 1-0 lead over the Huskies.

It was in the sixth when Houston Baptist found the board as Venker doubled to left center bringing in Sydlik to make the score even at one a piece. In the eighth, LU got runners in scoring position, but fouled out to end the top of the frame. The Huskies needed just one run ot end the contest and they got it on a sacrifice fly to left field by Hagler that brought in Brockway to give Houston Baptist a 2-1 win in game two.
