HOUSTON, Texas – The Lamar University softball program drop the series finale, 7-0, to Houston Baptist on Sunday afternoon at Husky Field.
The Huskies got out to an early lead in the first inning on a double to left center by Brockway that brought in Jaquez. Houston Baptist looked to extend their lead in the second but left a runner on in scoring position after grounding out to third to end the inning. It did not take long for the Huskies to find the scoreboard again. This time on a solo home run to right field by Echols that gave them a 2-0 lead going into the fourth.
The Cardinals got their first base runner of the game in the fourth but could not capitalize on the chance. Houston Baptist extended their lead again in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead. The Huskies were able to get the runner in from third on a single through the right side. The Cardinals would again get a runner on in the sixth, but the runner was left on.
Houston Baptist pushed their lead to 7-0 in the sixth after a single by Echols early in the inning scored one run then two batters later, Roberts singles through the left side to score another. The next Husky batter up singled as well brought in one run and then and error caused some extra throws to happen allowing another run to score. The Huskies went onto keep a 7-0 lead after the Cardinals leave a runner on in the seventh before flying out to end the contest with a Houston Baptist 7-0 win.
UP NEXT: The Cardinals will welcome Nicholls to the LU Softball Complex in the last home series of the 2021 season. The weekend is also senior weekend as we will honor two seniors on this year's squad.
