BEAUMONT, Texas – Former Austin Peay and Silsbee standout, Jordyn Adams, is returning to Southeast Texas to play basketball for Lamar University and new head coach
Alvin Brooks. A 6-3, 200-pound guard, Adams will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Cardinals beginning in Fall 2021.
"When we've been really good over the years, we've had regional talent that can compete at a high level," said LU head coach
Alvin Brooks. "Jordyn Adams is one of those very talented players from the region – from Silsbee High School – so this was very important. He is a high-level guy who is very excited about coming back home."
The first addition to the Cardinals' roster under Brooks, Adams is a former three-star prospect coming out of Silsbee High School. He was the No. 22 rated player in the state of Texas for the 2019 recruiting class and was ranked No. 36 on the Texas100.com list. The former Super Gold Player of the Year averaged 22 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals per game as a senior. Adams was recruited by the likes of Oklahoma State, Southern Mississippi and Baylor before heading to Austin Peay.
After signing with the Governors, Adams star shined even brighter. He took the Ohio Valley Conference by storm being named league freshman of the week 10 times during his rookie season. It came as no surprise when he brought home 2020 OVC Freshman of the Year honors, and was named to the OVC's All-Newcomer team.
Adams averaged 17.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and nearly a steal per game on his way to being named first-team All-OVC. He played in 33 games that first season earning 31 starts on his way to NABC All-District honors.
"Two years ago, he was a first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference player who was named league freshman of the year after averaging nearly 19 points per game," said Brooks. "He is a high-level guy who he and his family are excited that he is coming home. He told me, 'Coach, I'm coming back home to the 409,' which is what we want. We want to start here with the Golden Triangle. Jordyn has us off to a great start."
Adams served notice of the success he would have on the court in his very first game with the Governors when he came off the bench to score 20 points, becoming the first true freshman in program history to debut with a 20-point game since the turn of the century.
In his two seasons with Austin Peay, Adams has played in 53 games earning 48 starts. He averaged 14.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.0 steals per game. He also shot 39 percent from the field, 35 percent from three-point range and 81 percent from the free throw line.
