COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Lamar University softball team dropped both contests on day two of the Reveille Classic at the Davis Diamond.
Game 1 – Campbell 9, Lamar 1
The Camels got to work early on the Cards as they broke out the scoring with a 1-0 run going into the second. For both programs in the second, they face three up and three down situations, but defense kept both programs off the scoreboard until the sixth inning.
Campbell put up six runs on four hits in the top of the sixth. The Cardinals found the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame as a single by freshman
Reagan Jones was able to bring in freshman Alexa Xayaseng. That would not be enough for the Cardinals as the Camels went onto extend their lead in the seventh with two insurance runs to take the first game of the day, 9-1, over Lamar.
Game 2 – No. 25/19 Tennessee 8, Lamar 0 (5 Inn.)
The Lady Vols picked up where they left off a day ago with a 8-0 win in five innings over the Cardinals. They tallied the first run of the game in the first inning before struggling in the second inning that gave the Cardinals some chances. A Tennessee inside the park home run gave them a 4-0 lead heading into the fifth.
Tennessee got the four runs it needed to run-rule Lamar for the second time in two days off a single through the left side by the UT right fielder. The Cardinals went onto record just one walk in the outing while leaving three on base.
UP NEXT: The Cardinals will play one more contest at the Reveille Classic against host Texas A&M with first pitch set for 2 p.m. at Davis Diamond.
