ABILENE, Texas – The Lamar University soccer program traveled to Abilene, Texas for a Friday night matchup with the Wildcats and captured their first win at ACU with a 2-1 win in Elmer Gray Stadium.
"This was a great win for our team," said head coach
Steve Holeman. "Abilene is very talented and we have never beat them here before. We showed great resilience to come back from a goal down and had a really good second half."
The Wildcats broke the 0-0 tie in the 40
th minute of the contest on a penalty kick by Christina Arteaga. ACU went onto hold the advantage going into the halftime break. Just a little under 15 minutes into the second half, redshirt senior
Esther Okoronkwo found the back of the Wildcat net for the first LU goal of the contest at the 59
th minute. Not even minutes later, Okoronkwo was fouled within the penalty box and rewarded the penalty kick. The Richmond, Texas native drilled the ball home as she sent the Cardinals to a 2-1 lead over Abilene Christian. Lamar tightened up on the defensive end as at the 77

Nicole Panis recorded multiple stops to keep the contest in favor of the Cards.
The Cardinals kept up the offensive power as they recorded, and outshot, 22 shots overall with 11 of them being on goal. The Wildcats tallied just 15 shots with nine on goal. The fouls favored the home team as Lamar drew 11 fouls to ACU's seven. Panis recorded the full 90 minutes in goal for LU and recorded eight saves in the contest.
