COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Lamar University softball program dropped both contests of day one in College Station of the Reveille Classic to No. 25/19 Tennessee and Texas A&M.
Game 1 – No. 25/19 Tennessee 8, Lamar 0 (5 Inn.)
The Cardinals were able to hold the hot bats of the Lady Vols to just two hits and one run in the first inning before Lamar was able to hold Tennessee scoreless in the second. The Lady Vols tacked on another run in the third to extend their lead to 2-0.
The fourth inning saw the Cardinals get their second hit of the contest and from senior
Hannah Carpenter before the Lady Vols opened on the run separation with four runs on five hits to extend the Tennessee led to 6-0.
The Lady Vols forced Lamar into a three up, three down situation in the top of the fifth and Tennessee kept up their offense as they went onto tally two runs in the bottom of the frame to capture the run-rule victory over the Cardinals, 8-0.
Game 2 – Texas A&M 8, Lamar 0 (5 Inn.)
The Cardinals were able to create some offense as they recorded two hits but left two runners on base to begin game two. Lamar was able to only give up one hit and kept the Aggies off the scoreboard in the first inning.
Going into the second, the Cardinals kept up with the offensive pressure, but it was Texas A&M who went on to find the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame and took the 1-0 lead going into the third. Texas A&M was able to find the scoreboard again as they took a 2-0 lead on a single through the right side.
The Aggies were able to break open their offense in the seventh as they brought in five runs on five hits that gave them a 7-0 lead heading into the fifth. Forcing the Cards into a three up and three down situation, Texas A&M was able to get the final run needed to run-rule Lamar on a home run to center field.
