NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Lamar University softball program traveled north to Stephen F. Austin in the third weekend of SLC play and dropped a doubleheader to the Ladyjacks on Friday afternoon.
Game 1 – Stephen F. Austin 10, Lamar 1 (5 Inn.)
Both programs looked to get going early in game one, but both defenses were able to get things out of each jam going into the second. Forcing the Cards into a three up three down situation, the Ladyjacks got their offense going in the bottom of the second as they scored six runs on five hits to take a commanding lead over Lamar.
The third inning was a similar fashion to the second as the Cards stranded one on base, and SFA was able to tack one run onto their lead going into the fourth. The Cardinals tallied their third hit of the game in the top of the fourth, but the Ladyjacks were able to tally three more runs on two hits to extend their lead, 10-0. The Cardinals went onto tally their lone run of game one in the top of the fifth, but it was not enough as SFA captured the victory in five innings, 10-1.
Game 2 – Stephen F. Austin 14, Lamar 2 (5 Inn.)
The Cardinals got some offense going at the beginning of game two as they took an early 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the frame. The Ladyjacks picked up right where they left off with the hot bats as they tallied eight runs on five hits to take an 8-2 lead going into the second. Defensive stops by both teams kept the score at 8-2 for the next two innings.
The Stephen F. Austin defense allowed one runner on in the fourth but was able to keep the Big Red offense at bay going into the bottom of the fourth. The bats broke back out for the Ladyjacks as they tallied six runs on three hits and one error to take a commanding 14-2 lead over the Cards. Lamar was able to get a base runner on in the top of the fifth, but it was the SFA pitching that kept the Cards at bay and was able to capture a victory in game two, 14-2, over Lamar.
