BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University softball program drop the series finale to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders, 6-0, on a sunny afternoon at the LU Softball Complex.
The Islanders only needed one batter into the game to break the scoreless drought as Sammi Thomas took the fifth pitch of her at-bat over the left field fence to give AMCC an early 1-0 lead. The Cardinals tried to get things going early, but the Islanders kept up with their stout defense.
The Cardinal defense picked things up in the middle innings before the Islanders tallied four runs on four hits in the top of the fifth to push their lead to 5-0. Lamar gave up just one more run in the seventh as they could not bounce back in the bottom of the frame as the fell to the Islanders, 6-0.
UP NEXT: The Cardinals will head back out on the road and to Stephen F. Austin for a three-game series with a doubleheader on Friday, March 26
th then wrapping up the series with a single contest on Saturday, March 27
th.
