Soccer Pushes Win Streak To Five

THIBODAUX, La. – The Lamar University women's soccer program continued their dominant offensive performances with a 2-0 win over Nicholls on Friday afternoon at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.

"It's always nice to come away with a win, especially on the road," said head coach Steve Holeman. "I thought our defense stood strong and we had some good moments throughout the game. With our upcoming games we will need to be more efficient in front of goal, but we did a nice job of creating opportunities."

The Cardinals tallied both goals in the first half within minutes of each other. Redshirt senior Esther Okoronkwo scored in the 22nd minute to give LU the lead off of an assist from senior Sophia Manibo. Not but the next minute later in the 23rd minute, junior Christine Kitaru scored on an assist from Okoronkwo. The mighty Lamar defense kept the Colonels' offense to limited shots.

Lamar outshot Nicholls, 25-12, with nine of the Cardinal shots coming on goal. Sophomore Nicole Panis recorded seven saves on the afternoon, saving all the Colonel shots on goal. In the corner kick battle, Lamar lead with eight compared to just five for Nicholls.

UP NEXT: The Cardinals will round out the home portion of their schedule with a two-game homestand beginning with Northwestern State on Friday, March 19th with kickoff slated for 7 p.m. at the LU Soccer Complex.
