ARLINGTON, Texas – Lamar University used three pitchers to combine for a four-hit shutout Friday at UT Arlington. Junior
Zach Bravo got the start and pitched six scoreless surrendering just four hits while striking out two with no walks. Sophomore
Joe Buckendorff came on to pitch a scoreless 7
th and 8
th, and junior
Jack Dallas recorded his 5
th save with a perfect ninth.
The 2-0 victory – LU's second consecutive shutout win – saw the Cardinals' staff strand five Mavericks on base.
The Cardinals scored the first run of the game via an unearned run. After catcher
Ryan Snell drew a leadoff walk, he was able to advance to third on a two-base error. Two batters later, he came across to score on a sacrifice fly from
Avery George.
Big Red was right back on the attack in the next inning. After a leadoff double from
Anthony Quirion, junior
Chase Kemp didn't waste any time driving him home on a single to right field.
The two runs would be all LU would need as the pitching staff took care of the rest. UTA had just two baserunners the rest of the way – in the 6
th and 7
th inning. Bravo turned things over to Buckendorff who struck out two while walking just one in his two innings of work, and Dallas sat the Mavs down in order in the ninth.
The Cardinals return to action Saturday for the final game of the three-game series. First pitch for game three is scheduled for 2 p.m. from Clay Gould Field.
