Cardinals Split Tough Road Swing

CONWAY, Ark. – It was a near impossible situation for the Lamar University women's team Sunday afternoon in Conway, Ark. The Cardinals were facing a very talented Central Arkansas squad who was coming off eight days rest, while LU played a hard-fought, emotionally draining match at Northwestern State less than 48 hours earlier. UCA got the best of Big Red Sunday, 6-1.

"I'm proud of this team today," said LU head coach David Wong. "I thought they fought hard all the way through. At a certain point, I think you could see we were running on fumes, but even with that they continued to play hard. Credit to UCA, because the have a very talented team."

Central Arkansas won the doubles point and LU was never able to reverse the momentum. UCA picked up the fourth and deciding point before the Cardinals were able to get on the scoreboard. That point came from freshman Alba Perez at No. 4 singles.

Perez squared off against UCA's Jaeun Lee at the No. 4 spot. After dropping the opening set, Perez battled back to win the second set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (7-3). The two players decided the match with a super tiebreak as Perez recorded a 10-7 decision.

The Cardinals will now step out of conference play to face Houston in a match that was rescheduled after being postponed earlier this year. The match against the Cougars will begin at 2 p.m. from Houston.
