Cardinals Drop Two Games on Day One

CONROE, Texas – The Lamar University softball program dropped both contests to open play at the Scrap Yard Blizzard Challenge and will look to bounce back on day two when they play North Texas at 11 a.m. and then future WAC opponent Tarleton State at 1:15 p.m. at the Scrap Yard Sports Complex.

Game 1 – Wichita State 19, Lamar 0 (5 Inn.)

The Cardinals and Shockers were even after one inning of play, but the rest of the contest went on to be all Wichita State. The Shockers rattled off eight runs in the second inning alone to take a commanding lead over Lamar heading into the third.

Wichita State added six more runs in the third to extend their lead to 14-0 over the Cardinals and never looked back as they added on five more runs over the next two innings to secure the win over Lamar, 19-0, in five innings.

Juniors Aleka Xayaseng and Savana Mata recorded the lone two hits for the Cardinals in the loss.

Game 2 – North Texas 9, Lamar 1 (5 Inn.)

The Mean Green took a 4-0 lead in the second inning and did not look back as they captured the victory over the Cardinals, 9-1, in five innings. The Cardinals lone hit came from junior Aleka Xayaseng as she went 1-for-2 on the day and tallied the lone Cardinal run as well.

North Texas exploded for 13 hits and was able to bring in nine runs on the afternoon. The Mean Green sealed the five inning victory over the Cards in a last inning effort on a single that brought in the final run.
