FRISCO, Texas – Senior
Anthony Quirion has been named to the 2021 Preseason All-Southland Conference teams, presented by Hercules Tires, announced league officials Wednesday morning. Quirion garnered second-team recognition at third base. It marks the second consecutive season that Quirion has landed on the league's preseason squad.
Quirion was off to a hot start last season prior to the COVID pandemic shutting everything down. He was one of five Cardinals to start all 17 games, hitting .324 while slugging .500. Quirion was in the midst of one the hottest stretches of his career when the shutdown occurred putting a halt to a nine-game hit streak. He hit .410 over the final 10 games of 2020, while slugging .615 with a .419 on-base percentage.
Quirion finished the 2020 COVID-shortened season with 22 hits, including three home runs and three doubles. He also scored 10 runs while driving in 18. He also recorded five multi-hit and multi-RBI games last season. The Dixville, Quebec native recorded a career-best five RBI game against No. 23 Tulane.
Quirion was flawless in the field, with a perfect fielding percentage on 81 attempts.
"This is a great honor for Anthony," said LU head coach
Will Davis. "He has come in and worked really hard. He is deserving of this honor."
This is another honor to be added to a growing list for Quirion. In December, he, along with teammate,
Deric LaMontagne, were named to the Canadian Baseball Network's (CBN) All-Canadian team. The CBN All-Canadian team represents the best of 775 Canadian players.
During his LU career, Quirion has played in and started 71 games, posting a .298 batting average. He has also recorded 11 home runs with 44 RBI's and 15 doubles.
The Cardinals open the season Friday, Feb. 19 when they travel to Edinburg, Texas to take on UT Rio Grande Valley in a three-game series.
