BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University has released its 2022 baseball schedule – the program's first docket as a member of the Western Athletic Conference – which is highlighted by seven home series and five home midweek games.
The Cardinals will play 27 games within the confines of Vincent-Beck Stadium, with the longest stretch away from Beaumont being no more than seven games in April.
In a change to previous conference schedules, the Cardinals will play a home-and-home series with all teams in the WAC Southwest Division, meeting up with possible West Division foes in the conference tournament in May.
"We are very excited to get back to a normal schedule this year and test ourselves with some big out-of-conference matchups," said LU head coach
Will Davis. "Oklahoma, LSU, Texas A&M, Baylor, and Rice give us seven games against teams who have been to the College World Series in the last fifteen years."
The Cardinals will host two home series during the non-conference season beginning with the season-opener against Binghamton (Feb. 18-20). Following the three-game series against the Bearcats, LU will hit the road for five straight, but all within the state of Texas. The Cardinals will be in College Station Feb. 22 to take on Texas A&M, followed by a three-team series at Rice (Feb. 25-27), before closing out the stretch at Houston with a single game on Mar. 1.
Big Red returns home to host Mount St. Mary's for a four-game series beginning Friday, Mar. 4. Saturday will be a doubleheader against the Mountaineers, with the first game of the day slated to get under way at 1 p.m.
The Cardinals will travel back to Houston Wednesday, Mar. 9, to face Houston Baptist, before heading a couple hours north to face rival Stephen F. Austin (Mar. 11-13) in their first WAC contest. Following the series with the Lumberjacks, Big Red will make its first trip outside the Texas border when it plays a single game at Northwestern State Wednesday, Mar. 16.
Big Red's remaining home conference dates include Mar. 18-20 against Sam Houston, April 1-3 against Abilene Christian, April 22-24 in the rematch with SFA, May 6-8 against UT Rio Grande Valley and closing out the regular season May 19-21 versus Tarleton.
The Cardinals will also host non-conference midweek games against Texas Southern (April 5), Northwestern State (April 6), Houston Baptist (April 20) and Houston (April 26).
The WAC Championships will take place Wednesday, May 25
th through Sunday, May 29
th at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz.
