BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University scored the first points of the game, and trailed by only 10 with 10:20 remaining, but Jacksonville State scored 14 points within 69 seconds to pull away late for a 38-7 victory.
The Cardinals (2-8/0-6 WAC-ASUN) finished the night with 147 yards of total offense, with 94 of that coming on the ground.
True freshman
Daelyn Williams made his second career start and completed 6-of-18 passes for 53 yards. Freshman
Jaylon Jackson led the rushing attack with 22 carries for 85 yards and a touchdown. Jackson's score came with less than seven minutes remaining in the first quarter as he carried it in from five yards out.
Sophomore
Anthony Ruffin led LU defensively with a game-high 10 tackles. He also picked off a pass.
Tyler Jackson added nine tackles, including one for a loss. Jackson was one of six Cardinals to record a stop behind the line of scrimmage.
JSU finished the night with 493 yards of total offense and utilized a balanced attack with 256 rushing yards.
The Cardinals return to action Saturday, Nov. 20, when they host Stephen F. Austin. The game against the Lumberjacks will kick off at 4 p.m. Big Red will be honoring its seniors prior to kick off.
