BEAUMONT, Texas – Stephen F. Austin scored 14 consecutive points, on two Trae Self one-yard runs, to start the game and held on for a 42-6 victory to spoil Lamar University's Senior Day. The Cardinals finish the season 2-9 (.182) overall and 0-7 in Western Athletic Conference play.
LU finished the day with 200 yards of total offense, with 118 of those yards coming through the air. Freshman
Daelyn Williams completed 7-of-19 passes for 116 yards. He also carried the ball 14 times for 19 yards.
Senior
Erik Pizarro was Williams' favorite target hauling four passes for 85 yards. He would've gone over the century mark but had a long reception called back due to a penalty.
Junior
Jalen Dummett carried the ball seven times for a team-high 26 yards, while
Jaylon Jackson added 24 yards on six carries.
Damian Alexander led a defensive effort that held the Lumberjacks to 398 yards of offense, with 298 of those yards coming via the pass. Alexander finished the night with a game-high seven tackles, and a sack. Senior
Divine Buckrham finished his collegiate career with six tackles, including three unassisted stops.
The Cardinals answered SFA's two opening scores with a 32-yard field goal early in the second quarter. Giffen tacked on a 53-yard field goal with seconds remaining in the half, but that made the score 28-6 heading into the locker room. LU was unable to score in the second half as the Lumberjacks tacked on two more scores to close out the game.
