ABILENE, Texas – Lamar University battled tough in the third set to force a fourth, but that was as close as the Cardinals would get falling, 3-1 (25-13, 25-17, 20-25, 25-15) at Abilene Christian Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals (4-13/0-3 WAC) were held to a .041 attack percentage (38-31-169) Saturday. Big Red posted a match-high 13 kills in third set, but it was the defense that shined holding ACU to a match-low .000 attack percentage (9-9-38) in the Cardinals' set victory. Unfortunately, the Wildcats took early leads in the other three sets and held on late for the victory.
Freshmen Paige Dugan and Emily Surin, sophomore Amber Johnson and Kaitlyn Gil tied for team-high honors with eight kills, while Giselle Santini posted a team-high 18 digs. Sophomore Tytiana Johnson posted a team-high five blocks to go along with four kills and two aces.
LU will be back in action Thursday when they return home to host Sam Houston in a conference match up. The contest against the Bearkats will begin at 6:30 p.m. from McDonald Gym.
