BEAUMONT, Texas – Competing in their second Western Athletic Conference pod match in as many days, Lamar University dropped a tough 3-1 (20-25, 25-17, 25-21, 225-19) to Seattle Saturday afternoon at McDonald Gym.
The Cardinals (4-17/0-7 WAC) got out to a quick start posting a five-point victory in the opening set. Big Red hit .200 (14-6-40) in the opening set and improved upon that in the third (12-2-26/.346) but struggled to put to the Redhawks away down the stretch.
Junior
Malaysia Murdock posted a team-high 12 kills on 25 attempts with no errors. She also added a team-high three blocks for a squad that finished the day with 10 rejections. Freshmen
Paige Dugan and
Grace Nichols and sophomore
Amber Johnson each added eight kills. Dugan also recorded a team-high 28 digs. Sophomore
Hannah Waters added a team-best 21 assists.
The Redhawks finished the day 57-17-131 (.305) led by 17 kills from Sierra Bartley.
The Cardinals return to action Thursday when they make the short trip north to face Stephen F. Austin. The match against the Ladyjacks will begin at 6:30 p.m. from Shelton Gym.
