Box Score BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University served as a host for one of several Western Athletic Conference Pod tournaments Friday – allowing teams from the west division to play teams in the Southwest Division. The Cardinals dropped a three-set match to Chicago State, 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-15) at McDonald Gym. The loss drops LU to 4-15 on the season and 0-5 in conference play.
The Cardinals struggled to find their rhythm Friday finishing the day with an .038 attack percentage (22-18-106). Big Red was led by five kills from junior
Malaysia Murdock and
Grace Nichols (.357). Nichols also added two blocks. Freshman
London Hatch led the team with 10 assists, while sophomore
Giselle Santini added a team-high 15 digs.
Led by 13 kills from Yanlis Feliz, Chicago State hit .310 (48-13-113) on the afternoon. The Cougars also finished the day with 10 blocks.
The Cardinals will close out the four-team pod Saturday with a 10 a.m. match against Seattle. The match against the Redhawks will begin at 10 a.m. from McDonald Gym. The other pod matchup will see UT Rio Grande Valley take on Chicago State.
