LU All-American Lindley King Passes Away

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University Hall of Honor member, Lindley King, passed away Monday, July 6th after a 20-year battle with ALS. King's passing comes just days after another member of the LU Hall of Honor – W.S. "Bud" Leonard – passed away.

King graduated from Stark High School in 1958 and attended LSU to play football before transferring to Lamar University. A 1962 All-American, King was a standout, two-way player at both guard and linebacker. King was one of 11 two-way players to earn All-American honors in the early days of college football's one-platoon era.

The All-American honor was just the highlight of King's highly-decorated three-year career at LU. By the time King had played his final snap for the Red and White, he was a two-time All-Lone Star Conference selection, two-time All-Texas College honoree and named LU's Most Outstanding Lineman (1961 and 1962).

In 1961, King was the top vote-getter at his position being selected to the All-Lone Star Conference team.

A 1962 team captain, King helped guide the Cardinals to a 23-9-1 (.712) overall record – one of the best three-year stretches in program history. One of King's biggest moments on the field came during the 1961 Tangerine Bowl where he recovered a blocked kick for a touchdown to secure a Cardinals' victory.

King finished his career by being named to the Southwest Challenge Bowl all-star game. He was named a starter for the Texas All-College team, against the Southwest Conference All-Stars. King guided his squad to an all-star game victory.
