BEAUMONT, Texas – Despite the nationwide quarantine that took place due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Lamar University has continued to make plans for the return of students to campus and a football season in 2020. In the event that the COVID-19 public health risk extends into the 2020 season and forces the cancelation of LU football games LU has provided season ticket holders with several options.
Those options include credit toward the 2021 football season, credit toward other LU athletics home events, apply season ticket purchase to the LU Cardinals Club as a donation for this year or a pro-rated refund on games impacted by the virus.
"We are very fortunate to have a strong fan base here at Lamar University," said LU Director of Athletics
Marco Born. "We are very thankful to the support of our season ticket holders and donors. We also want to make sure to do right by them during what has been a very tough time for the Golden Triangle and the entire nation. Our main goal is to provide a peace of mind to our fan base as we head into the 2020-21 athletics year."
A payment plan option is also available allowing fans to purchase or renew their season tickets using monthly payment plans with 0 percent interest. Season tickets start as low as $50. To take advantage of a payment plan or if there are any questions regarding the 2020 LU football season tickets, contact the LU Ticket Office at (409) 880-7168, or by e-mail at vend_dschramm@lamar.edu.
As a department, LU is still working through different plans for the upcoming season for social distancing in Provost Umphrey Stadium. At this time, no decision has been made on limited seating capacity but will look to make an announcement later in the summer as more information comes available.
LU will continue to consult with local medical professionals throughout the summer and leading up to the season opener Sept. 3 against Mississippi College. The season opener against Mississippi College will open up the
Blane Morgan era at Lamar University. Hired in December, Morgan becomes the third head coach since LU brought back the sport, and its 10
th since transitioning to a four-year institution.
