BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University softball program dropped the first two games of the conference season to Stephen F. Austin on Friday afternoon at the LU Softball Complex
GAME 1 VS. SFA
The Cardinals collected just three hits and committed two errors in the 4-0 loss in Game One of the afternoon to Stephen F. Austin.
The Cardinals could not get anything to go their way as the Ladyjacks started their ace in Ashley Kriesel, the reigning Southland Player of the Week.
The lone hits from the Cards came from freshman
Hannah Kinkade, sophomores
Savana Mata and
Mackenzie Brown. All three Cardinals went 1-for-3 at the plate.
Sophomore
Aaliyah Ruiz suffered the loss on the night while tossing her seventh complete game of the year. Ruiz struck out four to add to her season total.
The Cardinals fell in game one to SFA, 4-0.
GAME 2 VS. SFA
Stephen F. Austin started right where they left off as they went up 1-0 in the third inning. The Cardinals got five hits in game two with sophomore
Savana Mata leading the way with a 2-for-4 outing in game two at the plate.
The lone run for the Cards on the night came in the bottom of the sixth as freshman
Alicia Lopez reached first on a fielding error by the SFA shortstop which was able to bring home Mata.
The Cardinals fall to 8-11 overall and 0-2 in Southland play.
