AUSTIN, Texas – The Lamar University softball program held No. 6/10 Texas quiet until the bottom of the third before the Longhorns took the 5-inning win over the Cardinals, 12-0, at McCombs Field.
The Cardinals' defense revealed some light in the first three innings as they held the Texas bats to just three hits and two runs going into the top of the third, 2-0. The Longhorns broke out for six runs in the bottom of the third to put them ahead, 8-0, going into the fourth. Texas was led by designated player Courtney Day, who finished going 1-for-1 at the plate and added one run and three RBIs.
Lamar ended the day with just one hit, and that hit came off of the bat of sophomore
Kristen Meyer. Meyer made her first appearance in the Cardinal uniform today after she spent the previous year at Galveston College.
In the loss, the Cardinals left just three runners on base, but only managed to get one hit compared to the Longhorns' ten hits.
Sophomore
