BEAUMONT, Texas- The Lamar University softball team will continue their 11-game homestand when they welcome Texas Southern to the LU Softball Complex on Saturday, Feb. 29
th. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and the second contest being at least 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1.
The Cardinals are coming off a 4-0 weekend at the Cardinal Classic where they opened home play against Northern Colorado and St. John's. Senior
Jade Lewis led the Cards with a .727 batting average, while sophomore
Aaliyah Ruiz tossed 14.0 innings and struck out seven en route to two complete game wins.

- The Cardinals are hosting Texas Southern for the first time since April 26, 2016 where Lamar captured the win over the Tigers 2-1.

- Texas Southern is heading to Beaumont following a couple of midweek victories against Houston-Victoria, 3-1 and 9-2.
- In his 16th year, head coach Worley Baker has taken the Tigers to new heights including six SWAC West Division titles in the past seven seasons.
- Texas Southern finished the 2019 season with an overall record of 25-27 and finished SWAC play with a record of 15-1 overall.
- The Tigers rely on Crimson Davis at the plate. Davis currently owns a .367 batting average and has an .429 on-base percentage.
