SOFTBALL CENTRAL: Cardinal Classic

BEAUMONT, Texas- The Lamar University softball team will begin home play as they will host the annual Cardinal Classic at the LU Softball Complex from Feb. 21-23. The tournament field also includes St. John's and Northern Colorado. The Cardinals first action of the weekend gets underway at 2:30 p.m. (CT) at the LU Softball Complex.
 
The Cardinals are coming off a 3-2 weekend in College Station, Texas that saw them partake in the annual Texas A&M Invitational. The field in College Station included Texas A&M, Lamar, Binghamton and St. John's.

Lamar contests will be streamed on the Lamar Athletics YouTube Channel and will be free to view.
 
Need to Know
 
  • The Cardinals are hosting the Cardinal Classic for the fourth consecutive year at the LU Softball Complex.
  • The Cardinals are 17-3 All-Time in the Cardinal Classic with two previous matchups with Northern Colorado in the 2016 edition.
 
 
Scouting Report
 
NORTHERN COLORADO
  • The Bears enter the weekend 2-8 after going 1-4 at the Susan Craig Classic last week.
  • Last week Emma Brockmann and Reyna Caudillo led the Bears at the plate. Brockman hit .438 with two runs scored and seven RBIs. She leads the team on the year with 11 RBIs. During Jo Evans tenure the Aggies have progressed to the NCAA postseason 20 times, including trips to the Women's World College Series in 2007, 2008 and 2017.
  • In the circle, Northern Colorado is led by Caudillo again as she plays on both sides of the ball. She currently leads the Bears with a 6.00 ERA and has a record of 0-1 in the 2020 season.

ST. JOHN'S
  • In his second season at the helm, St John's head coach Bob Guerriero led the Johnnies to their third Big East Regular Season Championship in five seasons with a 14-4 conference record.
  • Gretchen Bowie became the first Johnnie in the program's 39-year history to secure a spot on the league's top squad in three consecutive seasons. Bowie is on pace to break four program records (runs, RBIs, home runs, and triples).
