COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Lamar University softball program picked up their second win of the season against Binghamton, 1-0, on Friday afternoon at Davis Diamond at the Texas A&M Invitational hosted by Texas A&M.
The contest was decided on a pitching battle between sophomore Aalyiah Ruiz and the Bearcats pitcher Rayn Gibson. Ruiz recorded a new career-high 11 strikeouts in the 1-0 win over Binghamton. The bats fell silent for both teams as Lamar finished with just two hits compared to just one hit for the Bearcats.
The lone run came from senior
Shannon Klaus who was able to get one of two Lamar hits on the afternoon to fall to left center, making a bounce to get past a Bearcat outfielder. Klaus was able to record the triple on the hit. A single by sophomore
Mackenzie Brown brought Klaus home in the top of the sixth to secure the victory.
