SOFTBALL CENTRAL: Texas A&M Invitational

BEAUMONT, Texas- The Lamar University softball team travels to College Station on Friday, February 14th, to contend the Texas A&M Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M University. All games will be played at the Davis Diamond softball complex. Friday's first pitch is set for 12:15 p.m. (CT) against Binghamton.
 
Lamar is led by two transfers to the team this year who have impressed in their opening matches, Mackenzie Brown and Kristen Meyer. In the circle, the Cardinals will look to sophomore Aaliyah Ruiz or junior Shelby Mixon. Ruiz finished last season with a 2.30 ERA in 106.2 innings pitched.

Only Texas A&M Contests will be streamed. Media coverage for the Texas A&M contest can be seen on SEC Network+ and heard on KAGC 97.3 FM in the Bryan-College Station area. Saturday's 10:00 A.M, 12:15 P.M will only have radio broadcast.
 
Need to Know
  • The Cardinals are playing in the annual Texas A&M Invitational for the second time in two years after making their debut appearance last year.
  • The Cardinals went 1-4 last year at the Texas A&M Invitational, taking a win against Texas A&M Corpus Christi and losses to the Aggies and Longwood.
  • The 2020 edition of the Texas A&M Invitational includes Binghamton, Texas A&M and St Johns.

  • Michelle Johnson enters her 11th season at the helm of the Binghamton program in 2020. In her first decade, she has become Binghamton's all-time winningest head coach.
  • In 2015, Binghamton won its first-ever America East championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The following two seasons (2016 & 2017), the Bearcats captured the conference's regular-season titles. 
  • The Bearcats return senior Rayn Gibson, Gibson has led the team with 23 victories during that stretch and is also among the America East leaders in strikeouts per game throughout her career.

  • During Jo Evans tenure the Aggies have progressed to the NCAA postseason 20 times, including trips to the Women's World College Series in 2007, 2008 and 2017.
  • Freshman Jourdyn Cambell leads the Aggies at the plate with five doubles.

St John's
  • In his second season at the helm, St John's head coach Bob Guerriero led the Johnnies to their third Big East Regular Season Championship in five seasons with a 14-4 conference record.
  • Gretchen Bowie became the first Johnnie in the program's 39-year history to secure a spot on the league's top squad in three consecutive seasons. Bowie is on pace to break four program records (runs, RBIs, home runs, and triples).
