LAFAYETTE, La. – The Lamar University softball program faced their second NFCA Top 25 Team in five days and fell to No. 13/14 Louisiana, 8-0, in six innings on Tuesday evening.
The Cardinals could not get anything going their way in the contest. The Ragin' Cajuns put their ace Summer Ellyson in the circle to start the game and never looked back. Ellyson tossed a complete game and gave up no hits in 5.0 innings of work.
Sophomore
Aaliyah Ruiz came into the came into the contest in the bottom of the first after the Louisiana bats came out on fire. Ruiz was able to keep the Ragin' Cajun bats quiet for most of the contest, but a solid line drive down the left field line helped Louisiana extend their lead to 6-0 heading into the top of the fifth.
The Ragin' Cajuns sent their power hitter to bat, and she put the next Ruiz pitch into the center field bleachers to end the game, 8-0, in the sixth inning.
UP NEXT: The Cardinals will head to College Station, Texas to participate in the Texas A&M Invitational from Feb. 14-16. The field includes Texas A&M, Lamar, St. John's and Binghamton. The first game for the Cardinals will come against Binghamton on the 14
th at 12:15 p.m. (CT).
