SOFTBALL CENTRAL: at No. 10/9 Louisiana

BEAUMONT, Texas -The Lamar University softball program travels to Lafayette, La. on Tuesday, February 11th, to square off against No. 10/9 Louisiana in a midweek matchup with first pitch set for 6:00 p.m. at the Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park. The contest is available for viewing via the Ragin' Cajuns Digital Network.

This is the first meeting between the programs since 2014 when the Cardinals travelled to Lafayette and fell to the Ragin' Cajuns, 14-3, at Lamson Park. The Cardinals are looking to capture their first victory over Lafayette with the programs meeting a total of 18 times since 1984.

Entering the contest, Lamar is coming off a 1-3 weekend where they saw play at the annual Texas Classic. The tournament field included No. 6 Texas, Lamar, Maryland and Colorado State. The Cards picked up their lone victory of the weekend on a game-winning home run by senior Mackenzie Futrell, with the home run being Futrell's first of her collegiate career.

No. 10/9 Louisiana is coming into the contest after hosting their annual Louisiana Classic where they went 3-1 with the only loss coming against North Texas, 2-1. The Ragin' Cajuns are led by seniors Julie Rawls and Summer Ellyson. Rawls currently leads the team in batting average with a .444 average. Ellyson returns to the circle for Louisiana after picking up Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year honors in 2019 where she led the team in strikeouts (354) and only walked 56 batters.

UP NEXT: The Cardinals will head to College Station, Texas to participate in the Texas A&M Invitational from February 14-16 at the Davis Diamond. The field includes Texas A&M, Binghamton, St. John's and Lamar.
