Big Red Set for Date Against Former League Foes

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – For the third time this season, Lamar University will be facing a former Southland Conference foe when they step on the court at UTSA (UL Monroe and Louisiana Tech). The Cardinals head to the Alamo City looking to jump start the offense and get back in the win column.

It has been a tough start to the season for the Red and White being forced to battle through COVID restrictions, playing six of their first seven on the road and having several starters miss games due to injuries. All of this has combined for a 1-6 (.143) start to the season. The Cardinals will look to right the ship against a team in a venue where they've had some success over the years.

UTSA is 3-3 (.500) on the season, but has split their previous four decisions. The Roadrunners are coming off a blowout victory over Our Lady of the Lake.

The Cardinals lead the all-time series 19-15 (.559) against UTSA, with the majority of the games coming when both schools were part of the Southland Conference. LU has played .500 basketball against the Roadrunners in San Antonio, 9-9. Tuesday's game will be the first meeting since the 2017-18 season when they squared off in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

The 'Runners offense has been off and running this season averaging better than 80 points per game. The roster consists of six players who average at least seven points per game, including Jhivvan Jackson who is scoring just under 19 points through five games.

The Roadrunners are also one of the best rebounding teams in the country. As a team they're pulling down 45 boards per game and have five players who average better than four rebounds per game.

Junior Davion Buster paces the Cardinals' attack which is averaging nearly 58 points per game. Buster averages nearly 16 points per contest. He is one of three Cardinals averaging double-figures this season, while senior Avery Sullivan is averaging just under 10 points per game, but leads the team pulling down 7.3 rebounds per contest.

Tuesday's game is slated to tip off at 6 p.m. from the Convocation Center in San Antonio. The game will be streamed live on CUSA-TV.
