FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Lamar University women's soccer team dropped its third straight game on Thursday night as Arkansas defeated Lamar, 7-0, at Razorback Field.
LU was outshot 28-0 and 13-0 on shots on goal.
Sandra Nygard led the Cardinals with five saves.
The Razorbacks got the offense going early as Tori Cannata missed a shot high. Eight minutes later, Arkansas scored the first goal of the game. Anna Podojil crossed the ball to Cannata and she deflected it back to Stefani Doyle who scored putting the Razorbacks ahead 1-0.
Less than three minutes later, the Razorbacks had a counter-attack and Taylor Malham played a pass to Doyle who scored for her second goal of the game. The offense continued to be in favor of the Razorbacks in the first half. Arkansas had a shot by Cannata that Lamar saved.
The Razorbacks controlled play in the rest of the half and outshot the Cards 16-0. LU trailed 2-0 heading into halftime.
Following a failed clearing attempt by the Cards defense, Ashton Gordon found Parker Goins for a goal. Goins went to the left post from eight yards out. Less than a minute later, the Razorbacks had another attempt to score as they sent a cross into the box, and it deflected off a Cardinal defender and into the back of the net extending the Razorback lead to 4-0.
Late in the second half, the Razorbacks scored three more goals and did not allow a shot to the Cardinals and Lamar lost 7-0.
Lamar returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 8 when they travel to Tulsa, Okla. to play the University of Tulsa. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
