Roadrunners, Mean Green Added to Future Dockets

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – A week after announcing additions to the 2021 - 2023 seasons, Lamar University has released two more non-conference opponents falling in the 2021 and 2025 seasons. The Cardinals have added UTSA to the 2021 campaign – a game that will replace the original scheduled contest against Texas Tech – and will make a return trip to North Texas in 2025.

The most recent additions to the schedule come just five days after LU announced a home-and-home series with Northern Colorado (2021 and 2022), a 2022 trip to SMU and a date at UL-Monroe in 2023. The additions of UTSA and North Texas will be the second and third games against former Southland Conference members (although UTSA left the league before football made its official debut) with UL-Monroe and North Texas being the other two.

The matchup against UTSA will be the first meeting on the field between the two schools, while the Cardinals have a history against UNT dating back to the Mean Green's days in the Southland. The Cardinals are 2-5 (.286) all-time against North Texas. LU head coach Mike Schultz's first game on the Cardinals' sideline came at North Texas in 2017.

The Cardinals return to action Saturday when they host Abilene Christian at 6 p.m. from Provost Umphrey Stadium. The Cardinals are 2-3 (.400) on the season, and 0-2 in Southland Conference play, while the Wildcats are 2-3 on the season and 1-2 (.333) in conference play.
