BEAUMONT, Texas – Larry Edmondson has been named Lamar University Co-Offensive Coordinator announced head coach Mike Schultz Monday afternoon. Edmondson will serve as the passing game coordinator and will coach the Cardinals' receivers.
 
In addition to the hiring of Edmondson, offensive line coach Bill Bleil has been promoted to co-offensive coordinator and will oversee the Cardinals' run game. He has also been named assistant head coach. Adrian Madise will also transition over to running backs for the upcoming 2019 campaign.
 
"We're very excited to be adding Larry Edmondson to our staff," said Schultz. "He brings a great deal of knowledge and experience with him to Lamar University. He will serve as our passing game coordinator and also work with our outside receivers."
 
Edmondson comes to Beaumont from the high school ranks following an eight-years stint in Houston with the Rice Owls. During his time with the Owls, he served as co-offensive coordinator and helped guide Rice to three consecutive Bowl appearances posting a 2-1 (.667) record in those games. Edmondson also worked with the Rice quarterbacks during that time.
 
A sideline veteran with 30 years of coaching experience, Edmondson's career has made stops in the American Athletic Conference, Conference USA, SEC and Sun Belt. Edmondson originally went to Rice in 2009 to work with the Owls' receivers.
 
Edmondson's tenure with the Owls came after spending six seasons in Dallas working with the Mustang receivers. During his time with SMU, Edmondson coached two of the league's best wideouts in Bobby Chase and Emmanuel Sanders. Both athletes garnered all-conference recognition, while Sanders earned a freshman All-America nod.
 
Prior to his time in Dallas, Edmondson spent three years in Lafayette, La., working with the Ragin Cajuns offense. As the UL Lafayette offensive coordinator, Edmondson was the architect of an offense that set six school records in 2001 and was credited with the development of the Sun Belt leader in passing yards per game (sophomore Jon Van Cleave).
 
Edmonson has spent nine seasons in the SEC working with three different schools – Auburn, Mississippi State and LSU. During his time on the Plains, Edmondson took on the added role of overseeing the Tigers' recruiting efforts. The Tigers won an SEC West Division title and the 1998 Peach Bowl during his time at Auburn.
 
After serving as an offensive graduate assistant at Texas A&M and Arizona, Edmondson's first full-time position came at Southern Mississippi. In his first year at USM, the Golden Eagles went 10-2 including a 38-18 win over UTEP in the Independence Bowl. Southern Miss opened the 1990 season with a win over Florida State and played in the All-American Bowl that year, and also posted wins over both Alabama and Auburn during his time in Hattiesburg.
