Cards Look For Seventh Straight Win

BEAUMONT, Texas – On Wednesday, Jan. 16, Lamar University looks for its seventh straight win and 37th straight win at the Montagne Center when they host Southeastern Louisiana in Southland Conference action. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Southeastern Louisiana enters the contest with the Cards coming off a 74-71 victory over Abilene Christian for its second straight victory. The Lady Lions shot 52.2 percent (12-for-23) from behind the arc in the win. Celica Sterling led the way for SLU with 21 points and hit five of the 12 threes for the Lady Lions.
 
SLU has one player averaging in double-figures on the season. Sterling is averaging 16.4 points per game, the most on the team. Sterling is shooting 45.9 percent from the floor this season and has an SLC leading 44 threes on the season. Caitlyn Williams leads the team in rebounding, averaging 6.8 rebounds per game.
 
As a team, SLU is averaging 56.3 points per game this season and are shooting 34.7 percent from the floor. The Lady Lions scored a season-high 77 points against Alcorn State on Nov. 15. Opponents are averaging 60.9 points per game and shooting 38.1 percent on the season against SLU.
 
The Lady Lions were picked to finish ninth in the Southland Conference Preseason Poll.
 
LAST TIME OUT – CENTRAL ARKANSAS
After being tied at halftime, the Cardinals of Lamar University shot 52 percent in the second half and 72 percent in the third quarter pulling away from Central Arkansas for a 57-37 victory.
 
The win for LU is its 36th straight at home and are now 11-4, 4-0 in SLC action. The Sugar Bears fall to 5-9, 0-4 in SLC action.
 
"We came into this game knowing it would be a tough game. Last season Central Arkansas gave us our only loss in Southland Conference action," remarked Head Coach Robin Harmony. "We wanted to get some payback. The third and fourth quarter was Lamar Basketball. Chastadie had her fourth triple-double of the year and she got it the hard way. She was our quarterback and kept everyone together."
 
Moe Kinard led a trio of LU players in double-figures as she scored 18 points. Chastadie Barrs recorded her second straight triple-double (10 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists) in the contest. This is her eighth triple-double of her career and is a Southland Conference record. Barrs also led the Cards with six steals.
 
UP NEXT
The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 23 when they travel to San Antonio, Texas to face Incarnate Word. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. from the McDermott Center.
