HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Erin Pequeno's stellar weekend continued Saturday as the Lamar University women's volleyball team played at Sam Houston State. The redshirt junior defensive specialist had double-digit digs for the second consecutive match, but the Cards fell to the Bearkats in three sets.
Pequeno had 12 digs, leading the defensive effort for the Cards, and
Abigale Nash and
Tomar Thomas each recorded seven kills.
Bre'Ala Box led in blocks with five, and
Kyla Rogers and
Alyssa Legette had 13 assists a piece.
Lamar led early in both the first and second sets, but Sam Houston pulled away in both, taking the games 25-15 in both. Big Red came within a point, 18-17, in the final set thanks to a 5-1 run, but the Bearkats stayed just far enough ahead to escape with set, 25-18, and the match, 3-0.
The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday with their home opener. Incarnate Word will come to town and face Lamar at 7 p.m.
