ABILENE, Texas - Racking up the miles enroute to its Southland Conference opener, Lamar University's volleyball team will travel to Abilene Christian University on Thursday. First serve between the Cards and 'Cats will take place at 6 p.m.

Big Red performed well against talented
Long Beach State and
Loyola Marymount squads, forcing a fourth set against both teams, but slow starts hampered the Redbirds' chances at a comeback.
Tomar Thomas led the way in kills with 21 total, averaging 2.62 kills a set, and
Ivette Dim (13),
Abigale Nash (12), and
Dannisha House (10) also had double-digit kills. Nash also had 11 digs and three service aces, and
Kyla Rogers racked up 30 assists with another 23 going to
Alyssa Legette.
Lamar at Abilene Christian - Sept. 20 at 6 p.m.
Abilene Christian is 3-9 this season with wins over Georgetown, Winthrop, and Oral Roberts. The Wildcats are in their second season under
Angela Mooney, who holds a 16-27 mark overall and a 7-9 record in Southland play. Lamar is 3-3 all-time against ACU with a 2-0 mark at home and a 1-3 record at ACU.
Jacey Smith and
Katelyn Mueller are the two offensive weapons for ACU with both averaging about two and a half kills a set, and
Kendall Bosse handles the passing duties with 478 assists on the year, averaging 9.37 assists a set.
Lorin McNeil,
Lauren Walker,
Marybeth Sandercox, and Bosse each have over 30 total blocks in 2018.

The Cardinals will continue their SLC road trip Saturday with a match at Sam Houston State, then head home to McDonald Gym to host Incarnate Word for Big Red's Southland home opener on Sept. 25, the first of four consecutive home games for Lamar.
