FRISCO, Texas - Pulling in the first award in the
Michelle Kuester era, Lamar University's
Tomar Thomas was named to the Second Team All-Southland Conference, as announced by the league on Thursday.
Thomas, an All-SLCÂ Honorable Mention after the 2017 season, earned the all-conference honor by starting in 22 of her 23 appearances last season, playing in 77 sets. She led the team and was second in the conference in kills per set (3.66), and led the team in total kills with 282. She averaged 9.94 attacks per set, the sixth-most in the SLC, and led the team in total points (318) and points per set (4.14). Thomas has 552 kills, 1,536 total attacks, 119 total blocks, and 100 digs in her career as well as 22 career aces.
Seven other Cards also return for the 2018 campaign, joining an influx of eight new Cardinals that include five freshmen, a sophomore transfer from South Dakota State, and two junior college transfers. The season begins on August 24 at the Jax State Invitational in Jacksonville, Ala., on August 24. LU will face Mercer, UALR, and Jacksonville State on August 24 and 25 before returning to McDonald Gym for its home opener, the Cardinal Classic, August 30 - September 1.
