BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's basketball team returns to the Montagne Center for the first time since Nov. 20 when they host Howard Payne University, Monday afternoon. The contest between the Card and Yellow Jackets is set to tip at 12 p.m. as part of the Cards Education Day.

Howard Payne enters the contest against the Cardinals with a 4-8 overall record. Its game against LU will be its fourth game in a week. They are coming off a 64-52 loss to Belhaven University on Saturday, Dec. 15th. In the contest against Belhaven, Chelsey Harris led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with 23 points. She was the only double-figure scorer for Howard Payne.

Harris leads the team in scoring this season as she averages 16.3 points per game. Anastasia Wills leads the Yellow Jackets in rebounding as she is averaging 6.3 rebounds per game and is second on the team in scoring, averaging 10.1 points per game. This season Harris scored a team-high 30 points against Houston Baptist.

As a team, the Yellow Jackets average 61.9 points per game and are allowing 73.1 points per game. They scored a season-high 78 points on Dec. 8 against LeTourneau. The Yellow Jackets are shooting 34.8 percent from the field and 27.4 percent on three-pointers. Howard Payne is 63-for-230 on three-pointers. Howard Payne made a season-high 11 three-pointers against Schreiner on Nov. 27.

Howard Payne was picked to finish in fourth place of the West Division in the American Southwest Conference. The Yellow Jackets received 47 points in the preseason poll.

LAST TIME OUT – Kansas State
Chastadie Barrs recorded her second double-double of the season but it was not enough on Wednesday evening as Lamar University was defeated by Kansas State, 73-55. The loss drops the Cards to 5-4 on the season.

Barrs scored 17 points and collected a team-high 10 rebounds as she picked up her second double-double of the season.Â
Miya Crump led the Cards with 19 points. LU struggled shooting from the outside as they shot 3-for-20 on three-pointers.

UP NEXT
LU returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 20 when they host the University of the Pacific. The Cards and Tigers will tip off at 7 p.m. Thursdays contest is Hoop and Holla for a Dollar at LU.
