Cards Head to Texas A&M For Hoops Matinee

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's basketball team heads to College Station, Texas to face SEC foe Texas A&M in a hoops matinee on Thursday, Nov. 29. The Cards and Aggies will tip off at 11 a.m. as the Aggies host their education day.
 
It is the Cardinals first 11 a.m. game since Nov. 11, 2015, when they played at Oklahoma State University. The 11 a.m. tipoff is the earliest scheduled start of the season for LU.
 
KINARD NAMED SOUTHLAND PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Moe Kinard was named the Southland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week presented by MidSouth Bank, the Southland Conference announced Monday.
 
The Cardinal guard picked up her first weekly honor of the season after averaging 30 minutes and a stellar 25.7 points per contest. Kinard exploded on the offensive end shooting 43.9 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from beyond the arc over the course of Lamar's three games.
 
The LU senior set single-game records in points (58) and three-pointers made (13).  Both marks also are single-game Southland Conference records. Her 13 made three-pointers is an NCAA single-game record. For her performance at the DU Classic, Kinard was named MVP.

The Aggies enter the contest against the Cardinals with a record of 4-1 and are coming off a 97-56 victory over Arkansas State on Friday, Nov. 23. They had five players score in double figures. The 43-point win for the Aggies' is the largest margin of victory at home since Dec. 29, 2015. Texas A&M had 30 assists on 39 made shots.
 
In the last 16 games the Aggies have played at Reed Arena, Texas A&M is 15-1. They have won 10 straight games at home, three this season and seven to close out last season. When playing at Reed Arena, the Aggies are 103-8 in non-conference games since 2004-05.
 
Over the first five games of the season for the Aggies, they are averaging 72.2 points per game and are shooting 46.7 percent from the field. Texas A&M has attempted 56 threes as a team on the season and only five players have made a three.
 
The Aggies have three players scoring in double-figures this season. Chennedy Carter leads the way with 19.0 points per game. Carter was named the 2017-18 National Freshman of the Year, SEC Freshman of the Year, and earned AP & WBCA All-American honors.
 
LAST TIME OUT – OHIO
A day after hitting a school record 20 three-pointers, the Lamar University women's basketball team struggled shooting from behind the arc in an 87-62 loss to the University of Ohio.
 
The Cards were 3-for-23 on three-pointers against the Bobcats, a night after going 20-for-43. LU shot 31.5 percent from the floor in the game, while Ohio shot 48.1 percent.
 
Leading the way for the Cardinals was Chastadie Barrs, who led the team with 20 points and eight rebounds. Miya Crump followed with 18 points.
 
UP NEXT
Lamar stays on the road and travels to Manhattan, Kansas to face Kansas State on Wednesday, Dec. 5. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
