COLLEGE STATION, Texas – In a great honor for Lamar University and Cardinal Baseball, head coach
Will Davis was invited to present at the inaugural Surefire Baseball Forum on Friday at Texas A&M University. The event matched NCAA Division 1 administrators with the top assistant baseball coaches around the country. Davis was one of just two head coaches invited to speak at the event.
"I think it is a great thing that Jason Penry is doing in helping to grow college baseball and advance people's careers," said Davis. "I am flattered to be on the same stage as
[Mississippi State Director of Athletics] John Cohen,
[Arkansas State Director of Athletics] Terry Mohajir, and
[Texas A&M Head Baseball Coach] Rob Childress, and I hope that I can add something to the event."
Modeled after the
Villa 7 networking event for college basketball, which led to about 90 assistants securing head coaching positions from 2004-2012, the Surefire Baseball Forum matches D1 administrators with the top assistant baseball coaches from across the country. The purpose of Surefire is two-fold: help assistant coaches make connections to secure head coaching jobs and create more interest for college baseball among athletic administrators.
The event featured a speed networking session and presentations by Cohen and Andy Rawlings, Chief Revenue Officer of Learfield, followed by a presentation by Davis, Childress, and Mohajir. The forum was organized by Learfield, Texas A&M Athletics, D1Baseball.com, and the College Baseball Foundation.
