BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University head football coach
Mike Schultz's weekly radio show will begin Thursday on Newstalk 560 KLVI. The show will be broadcast live each week from the Neches River Wheelhouse in Port Neches on the Cardinals' Flagship station beginning at 7 p.m.
Schultz will join LU play-by-play voice Harold Mann each week to recap the previous game, look ahead to the next opponent as well as take questions from fans. Those unable to attend the show in person can still take part by calling in to the one-hour program. The dedicated numbers for the show are (409) 896-5584, or 1 (800) 330-5584.
Schultz is in his first year with the Cardinals, being hired in December 2016 and is just the second coach since the program was brought back for the start of 2010 season. Schultz's squad is 1-1 (.500) entering its Southland Conference opener Saturday at Northwestern State.
The Cardinals head to Northwestern State a game under .500 (8-9-1) all-time in the series but have dropped five consecutive games in Natchitoches, La. Despite Big Red's struggles in the series away from Beaumont, the Cards are coming off a thrilling one-point decision over the Demons last year in Beaumont. The Cardinals trailed by 13 points with less than two minutes remaining but rallied for two scores including a touchdown with six seconds on the clock for the win.
The Cardinals are 1-1 after opening the home portion of their schedule Saturday with a 72-6 victory over Texas-Permian Basin. The victory saw the Cards rack more than 600 yards of total offense, while holding their opponents to fewer than 150 yards.
Saturday's game is slated to kick at 6 p.m. from Turpin Stadium. It can be heard live on Newstalk 560 KLVI, or seen on ESPN3 – the network's online platform.
