Cardinals look to end season on a high note

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's volleyball team looks to end its season on a positive note when it meets Stephen F. Austin at noon Saturday in Nacogdoches, Texas.

The Cardinals (4-21 overall, 2-13 Southland Conference) have already been eliminated from Southland Conference Tournament contention, but an LU win could dash SFA's hopes for a regular-season title. The Ladyjacks (25-6, 13-2) would clinch the regular-season crown with a win over LU. SFA enters Saturday's match one game ahead of Central Arkansas for the league lead. Central Arkansas hosts Nicholls on Saturday.

Tomar Thomas leads the Cardinals with 272 kills, an average of 3.68 per set. Murielle Hlavac is second on the team with 194 kills to go along with a team-leading 245 digs.

SFA has three players with more than 200 kills, led by Haley Coleman with 290. Coleman's 291 digs are second on the team. Lexus Cain leads SFA with 504 digs.

Saturday's match is the second meeting of the season between the Cardinals and Ladyjacks. SFA won in four sets over LU at McDonald Gym on Oct. 7 despite a match-high 16 kills from Thomas.

Saturday's match will be the final match for LU seniors Haley Morton and Amy Hollowell.
