Feb. 19, 2015NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Lamar Lady Cardinals saw their six-game winning streak come to an end with a 71-60 loss at Stephen F. Austin in a Southland Conference women's basketball game Thursday night.
Â
With the loss, Lamar (14-11 overall, 11-3 Southland) fell into second place behind SFA (18-6, 11-2) in the conference.
Â
Addesha Collins had a career-high 20 points for Lamar, but it wasn't enough for the Lady Cardinals, who couldn't overcome a slow start for the second time against the Ladyjacks this season.
Â
Lamar went the first 8 minutes, 55 seconds of the game before getting its first field goal. The Lady Cardinals trailed 35-24 at halftime and trailed by as many as 21 points in the second half before battling back.
Â
“We didn't play well,” Lamar coach Robin Harmony said. “When you play big-time games, your big-time players have to step up. We didn't do that tonight.”
Â
JaMeisha Edwards had 11 points for Lamar, while Dominique Edwards finished with nine points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
Â
SFA had five players in double figures, led by Taylor Ross with 16 points. Porsha Roberts had 14 points, Tierany Henderson had 12 points, while Brittney Matthew and Adrienne Lewis had 10 points apiece.
Â
“We held Porsha Roberts in check, but SFA had some other players come through for them,” Harmony said.
Â
Lamar has four games remaining, with three of those at home. The Lady Cardinals host McNeese State at 4 p.m. Saturday in the opener of a hoops doubleheader at the Montagne Center. The Lamar men entertain McNeese State in the 6 p.m. nightcap.
Â
“We still control our destiny to finish in the top two and get a bye into the semifinals of the conference tournament,” Harmony said. “We have to be ready to play every night.”

Saturday's game will be broadcast live on KLVI (AM 560) and be simulcast on www.LamarCardinals.com. Live video streaming is available at www.BigRedSN.com. For ticket information, call (409) 880-1715.
