Cardinals suffer road loss at Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Lamar University women's basketball team fell victim to a hot-shooting Missouri squad on Sunday, dropping a 91-57 decision to the unbeaten Tigers.

The Cardinals (3-7) saw the Tigers (11-0) go 16-of-40 (40 percent) from 3-point range, the most 3-pointers made and attempted by an LU opponent this season. Missouri was especially deadly from beyond the arc in the first half, going 10-of-26 from downtown. LU, which entered the game leading the Southland Conference by averaging 7.7 treys per game, was 5-of-19 from 3-poin range for the game.

Addesha Collins led LU with 19 points, while freshman guard Chastadie Barrs just missed out on her first career double-double, finishing with 16 points and nine rebounds.

"Missouri is a very good team and they showed that," LU coach Robin Harmony said. "They are one of the toughest teams we will face this season. This will definitely help us get ready for Southland Conference play."

Missouri led 28-15 after one quarter after going 8-of-16 from 3-point range in the first 10 minutes. The Tigers increased their lead to 47-29 at intermission.

Kiara Desamours had eight points and six rebounds for the Cardinals, while Laka Blache had six points and six rebounds.

Sophie Cunningham led Missouri with 27 points, with 14 of those coming in the first quarter. Jordan Frericks added 11 points for the Tigers.

Missouri outrebounded LU 53-31 to build a 23-5 advantage in second-chance points.

The Cardinals take a break for Christmas before returning to action at 7 p.m. Dec. 30 when they host Howard Payne in the final non-conference game of the season. LU opens Southland Conference play at 1 p.m. Jan. 2 at Nicholls before hosting New Orleans at 5 p.m. Jan. 4.
