Volleyball clipped by Texas Tech

EDINBURG, Texas – Lamar’s Cortney Moore collected a team-high 12 kills, but the Lady Cardinals dropped a 3-1 decision to Texas Tech in their final match at the UTPA Tournament on Saturday.

Moore was named to the all-tournament team at UTPA for the second straight year after leading the Lady Cardinals with 46 kills and a .340 attack percentage over three matches.

Lamar (0-6) put an early scare into Texas Tech (6-0) by winning the first game 25-22. The Red Raiders stormed back to win the next two games 25-11 and 25-12 before holding off a stubborn Lamar squad by a 25-20 score in the fourth game.

Moore had 12 kills for Lamar, while Nicole Parish had nine kills and Autumn Taylor had eight kills. Ashley Ellis had a match-high 39 assists for the Lady Cardinals.

Jenna Allen had 19 kills for Texas Tech.

The Lady Cardinals travel to Norman, Okla., for the Oklahoma Nike Invitational next weekend.
