Women's hoops edged by TCU

Dec. 11, 2014

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Lamar Lady Cardinals saw their upset bid come up just short in a 72-68 loss at TCU in a non-conference women's basketball game Thursday night.

Dominique Edwards had 18 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season and 14th of her career for Lamar. Addesha Collins had a career-high 16 points for the Lady Cardinals (2-6), Kiandra Bowers had 13 points and nine rebounds, and Caroline Adesulu added 10 points and seven rebounds for Lamar.

The Lady Cardinals never led in the game, but stayed close the entire contest thanks to a pressure defense that created 28 turnovers and had 18 steals. Lamar outscored TCU 22-14 in points off turnovers.

“We did some things very well,”” Lamar coach Robin Harmony said. “This was a good measuring stick for us. We missed some layups that came back to haunt us, but we played hard and never gave up.”

Lamar pulled to within two points on two occasions in the final minute, but TCU (5-3) hit all four of its free throws in the final seconds to preserve the win. The Horned Frogs were 23-of-28 from the line for the game, while Lamar was 15-of-18.

Zahna Medley led TCU with 18 points. Natalie Ventress had 13 points, while Chelsea Prince had 11 points. TCU had a 42-36 rebounding edge for the game.

The Lady Cardinals travel to Wright State at 1 p.m. Sunday and to Ohio Valley at 6 p.m. Tuesday for a pair of non-conference games. Both games will be broadcast live on www.LamarCardinals.com. Sunday's game will also be shown on ESPN3.
