Women's hoops falls at Wright State

Dec. 14, 2014

DAYTON, Ohio - Dominique Edwards registered her second straight double-double, but it wasn't enough for the Lamar Lady Cardinals in 82-61 loss to host Wright State in a non-conference women's basketball Sunday afternoon.

Edwards finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season and 15th of her career, tops among active LU players. Kiandra Bowers added 11 points for Lamar (2-8).

The Lady Cardinals led by as many as six points in the early going, and held an 18-17 lead with 10:22 remaining in the first half before Wright State (5-2) went on a 10-0 run to take the lead for good.

Lamar held Wright State's Tay'ler Mingo in check, limiting the nation's third-leading scorer to 10 points. Mingo entered the game averaging 26.2 points per contest. However, Wright State had three other players in double figures, led by Courtney Boyd with 18 points. Tayler Stanton had 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Breanna Stucke finished with 13 points.

The Lady Cardinals hurt themselves with turnovers, as Lamar's 21 turnovers led to 18 Wright State points. Wright State also grabbed 16 offensive rebounds that led to 19 points. For the game, Wright State outrebounded Lamar 43-34.

Teleshia Riley and Baileigh O'Dell had nine points apiece for Lamar, while JaMeisha Edwards had seven points in her first start of the season.

"It's disappointing, but we have to bounce back," Lamar coach Robin Harmony said.

The Lady Cardinals return to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday when they travel to Vienna, W.Va., to meet Ohio Valley University. That game will be broadcast live on www.LamarCardinals.com.

After Tuesday, Lamar is idle until Dec. 28, when it travels to Rice. The Lady Cardinals' next home game is 4 p.m. Jan. 3 against Nicholls in the Southland Conference opener for both schools.
