NACGODOCHES, Texas - The Lamar volleyball team battled with both
Chelsea Grant and
Autumn Taylor with double-figures kills, but Stephen F. Austin took the match 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-20) on a .327 hitting percentage Saturday afternoon at Shelton Gym in Southland Conference action.
Grant had a match-high 13 kills in 20 attacks for a .456 hitting percentage while Taylor collected 11 kills in 37 attacks for a .243 percentage. LU fell to 3-18 overall and 3-6 in league play this season. Stephen F. Austin improved to 18-7 and remained undefeated with 11 wins in Southland Conference play.
Cortney Moore had nine kills, Amethyst Holloway had eight and Alaina Dock had two. Ashley Ellis had 43 assists, and Erika Rojas had 11 digs.
The Ladyjacks were led by both Jacque Allen and Justice Walker in kills, who both had 10 apiece. Allen's kills came on 15 total attacks while Walker earned hers from 19.
Lamar had a .316 hitting percentage in the first set (17 kills, five errors, 38 attacks), a .345 percentage (14, 4, 29) in the second set and a .179 percentage (12, 5, 39) in the final set. As a team, the Lady Cardinals put together a .270 for the entire match.
LU was never lower than three points down in the first set and was tied with SFA at 20-20 before the Ladyjacks wrapped it up with three kills and two Lamar errors. The second set saw both teams knotted at 17, but SFA's 8-4 run ended that set.
The Stephen F. Austin jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the final set, but the Lady Cards climbed back into to it to get the set to 15-15. Once both teams got to 18-18, Stephen F. Austin put the match away on a 7-2 run.
Lamar wrapped up its four-game road swing with the loss Saturday, and returns to McDonald Gym on Thursday at 7 o'clock to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
